Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of massage?

Massage can improve your posture, balance your mind and body, relieve pain, promote your relaxation, eliminate excess fluid retention and reduce improper muscle patterns. It will leave you feeling incredible, more relaxed and able to better deal with the stresses of life.

Can I get a massage without being a chiropractic patient?

We recommend using massage as a stand-alone therapy or combined with chiropractic, physiotherapy or acupuncture. Each discipline works with the others to keep your body in the best possible balance, alignment and function. Furthermore, being a chiropractic patient and getting a massage means your practitionres can collaborate on your case to get you the greatest possible benefit. You can, however, schedule a massage session without first being a chiropractic patient at our office.

How do I know which massage technique is right for me?

As massage therapists, it’s our job to determine which techniques would be most effective in addressing your particular needs. We use visual and orthopedic assessment techniques to gather information needed to create the best course of action for each client we see. We’ll also discuss what’s brought you in and make sure that we know how best to help you with your individual concerns.

Where does the massage take place?

You’ll have your massage on-site at our office. We offer private, quiet, warm and comfortable massage rooms. You’ll lie on a soft table with soothing music playing in the background. Our relaxing atmosphere has been created just so that you’ll feel ready to start your healing from the moment you enter!

What will I wear during my massage?

We typically perform the massage while you’re clothed in your underwear. You can, however, undress to your comfort level. We can work around any clothing that you would prefer to leave on to the best of our ability. Our massage therapists are well-versed in draping techniques so that you never feel exposed. We respect your privacy.

What does a massage feel like?

The techniques used will determine how your massage feels to you. Generally, we will start with a softer touch, increasing the pressure gradually to relax and release your tight muscles. A deep tissue massage requires more intensive pressure. If you want less or more pressure at any time, please let your massage therapist know. We believe in full communication and welcome your feedback at any time.

Will I be sore after the massage?

How you’ll feel depends on your particular concern and the type of massage you received. Some people may feel tender for 2-3 days after their massage. It will vary with the massage technique used and the pressure involved in that particular technique. We recommend that you drink more water than usual and know that your symptoms will subside.

Who is a candidate for massage?

Anyone can benefit from massage therapy. We welcome children, athletes, Department of Veterans Affairs members, motor vehicle accident victims, expecting moms and more.

What is Active Release Therapy?

This method of soft tissue treatment focuses on relieving tension in the tissues. We work to release adhesions that have developed from repetitive use overload. It’s an effective manner to target specific muscles, nerve entrapments, ligaments and fascia.

What is cupping?

Myofascial cupping is a soft tissue therapy that encourages healing by creating a negative pressure or suction on the skin. It uses plastic cups that pull up and release underlying tissues. The cups can be moved in specific patterns to release superficial and deep fascial restrictions causing pain and tension. Cupping is excellent for addressing many sports injuries, areas of pain and tension. It can also be used in a gentle relaxation treatment.
